Several media outlets are reporting on a CNBC story that a settlement between Dish Networks and Tivo is in the final stages, which sent the Tivo
stockĀ up higher than it’s been since June.
In case you don’t know the history, Tivo sued Dish, and then AT&T and Verizon, over patent infringement. Dish has lost almost every court decision, both by jury and judge, and it seems to be only a matter of time before Dish is forced to settle or turn off its customer’s DVRs. (They could really do their customer’s a favor and just work out an agreeement to put the Tivo software on Dish equipment. But hey, we’re a little bias here, this is a site dedicated to Tivo.)
Having said all that, if we thought Tivo was in the wrong, we would say it. But you can’t deny the rulings and judgements over and over again.
Couldn’t Dish have saved everyone millions of dollars and just paid up after they lost the fourth ruling in a row?
