Top 5 Netflix new releases for the week of Nov. 30, 2009. Just our picks for what’s worth watching:
- The Royal Tenenbaums (MOVIE) – This comedy did just o.k. at the box office, but the last decade has seen fewer and fewer Gene Hackman movies, so we say watch this one. It’s comedy is pretty dry, but still worth your time.
- The Botany of Desire (Documentary) – This is truly a unique documentary about how humans interact with plants. We know it sounds boring, but its actually very intriguing and you’ll have plenty of “I didn’t know that!” moments.
- The Proposition (MOVIE) – This is probably one of the better Western’s set in Australia since the likes of Quigby Down Under in the 1980s. Set in the Australia of 1880’s and starring Guy Pearce, this drama is definitely worth watching.
- The Buddy Holly Story (MOVIE) – This is one of the best biographical pictures ever made. It tells the story of the rise of Buddy Holly in the 1950’s, and stars a then pretty much unknown Gary Busey. No, he wasn’t quite so weird then either. Excellent movie, see this.
- Silent Movie (MOVIE) – This 1976 Mel Brooks classic will have you laughing…that is if you can handle the corny jokes that are Brooks’ trademark. After a while, the jokes just get to you and then you have to laugh. This one was not as watched as Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein, but it still comes from a decade where Brooks was at his best.

TiVo on Tuesday said that it had entered into an agreement with Google to provide the search company with anonymized TiVo viewing data for use with the Google TV Ads platform.
This from a story at Information Week and other sources. Don’t worry Tivo users, the data given to Google is anonymous.

Over at EngadgetHD, they’re pondering if a new Tivo might be on the way. I can’t say I would be displeased, as any new Tivo would be exciting. They also have a wish list of new features they would like. Not sure if I agree with all of these, what do you think?:
Here is our TiVo wish list.
- A new 3D 16×9 HD optimized user interface, similar to the look of the new search — we could go on and on with improvements in the UI, but we’ll save that for another post.
- At least four HD tuners — current CableCARDs can authorize 6 HD streams.
- Real multi-room viewing with automatic conflict resolution and a consolidated ToDo list and Now Playing list — content should be steamed and not copied so that even Copy Once content will play in any room.
- MoCa 1.1 so the TiVos can communicate without WiFi or Ethernet — this is how the FiOS multi-room DVRs work.
- Native VOD, PPV and SDV support via tru2way — we know this is possible, make it happen.
- More and, better integrated, web features — everyone knows they look tacked on.
DLNA adoption and maybe even join the RVU Alliance — this one even seems to good to be a dream.
